Duncan Hardy is an IT Consultant and the owner of SME Computing Ltd who provides a range of IT managerial consultancy and training services for business startups, small and medium sized business, corporate clients and the public sector.

Duncan has over a decade of commercial experience within the IT industry and began his career as a software developer specialising in business intelligence and resource utilisation systems for corporate clients.

Later employed as a software developer by a Derby based training company Duncan authored a learner tracking system which is still in use today. Quickly becoming responsible for the management of the companies IT estate he understood the importance of using IT as a business tool. The company realised significant growth and over a couple of years the IT estate developed from a 25 user Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Client/Server LAN to a WAN infrastructure operating over 500 workstations across 25 sites throughout the UK.

Moving to Nottingham he worked as Head of IT for a FTSE 250 Plc and managed a multi-million pound global IT infrastructure. This proved a particular challenge as 70% of growth came by acquisition - at a rate of one company every two months for an eighteen month period. Duncan developed processes, policies and a governance structure that were used to make the concurrent integration and business transformation projects go smoothly whilst at the same time Service Level Agreements ensured that day to day support could be continually improved.

Duncan began SME Computing with a view of providing software solutions, technical support and strategic guidance to the Small and Medium Sized Enterprises within the East Midlands.  Since then the company has evolved from a sole trader to a Business Link quality assured Private Limited company.
